“It was extraordinary because, for a brief moment, I was present enough to see it.” Truly the most beautiful way to live…

I love the themes you pulled together for this one, the different directions tie together beautifully.

I wonder if this is how we, as people, felt before we had so many easy distractions? If the reason there’s entire cultures and beliefs that boil down to “the world is full of spirits”, where everything from the wind to the bird riding it were beautiful and fresh in our minds, is because we had the time to appreciate them.

What a beautiful essay, what a beautiful bird.

Thank you Royce! And yeah to imagine a world without distractions almost seems impossible, but I’m sure it would be a better quality of living not being so absorbed in our phones.

Thanks Sasha! I thought “komorebi” was interesting too. It’s so nice to know there’s a word to describe such a beautiful process of light filtering itself through trees. Something that only be noticed if we’re present enough.

I also appreciate you sharing that the cardinal reminds you of your grandmother. That’s really special. I think truly being one with nature is one of the most radical things one could do these days. People desperately need to get back into what makes them human.

What a gorgeous reflection. This is exactly what I needed to read today — a poetic and honest confrontation of all the pressures in our life and the lesson we can draw from nature. So lovely and so inspiring.

Thanks for such kind sentiments Mariam! They mean a lot. I’m so glad you were able to find inspiration from it. These pressures are prevalent for many of us during these times, but we still have agency over the way we see the world.

What a wonderful piece! Perfect with my morning coffee before I go out and enjoy the sunshine through the leaves. I appreciate learning a new word, komorebi.

Everytime I see a cardinal I say hi to my grandmother. It makes me notice them constantly. Somehow they always fly by when I am feeling down.

I enjoy your posts and your writing.

Being present in one's days with the nature and the people in one's life, is something that everyone under the pressure of constant production is made to feel guilty about, hence, i think it becomes radical to own your own time and your own attention.
